Human Energy and Connection Series

Through 2021, my final year in my BFA in Visual Arts, I worked on a series of paintings exploring ideas of the human energy field, our interconnectedness and connection to others, the aura, and our emotions. I did this through abstract paintings, using colour to express ideas of energy and emotion. Here are some of my works though that time. 

This 5 x 4 foot painting is my largest work in this series. I had done lots of research on colours and their meanings culturally and spiritually, and combined that with some of my own interpretations to match colours to over 100 human traits. In this painting, the egg shaped form represents a human being, including their energetic field and aura- which is said to be egg shaped. To determine the order of the colours, I had a few people complete a survey of sorts. Each individual would go though the list of over 100 traits, and select all of the traits that they felt they had, and then ordered them from what they felt was their strongest to weakest. I took that information, and matched it with all of my pre-assigned colours that matched with each trait, and had them emanating out from the egg from their strongest being closest to the egg, to weakest being furthest away. Like strobing light, these colours/traits radiate the energetics of an individual who completed the survey, expressing in a way how our being and energy radiates to affect those around us- which leans into my next works showing communities and groups of people.
