About the Artist
Meaghan Crow is an acrylic painter gratefully based in Brentwood Bay, BC, situated on the traditional lands of the W̱SÁNEĆ and Lekwungen peoples. With a deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world, she approaches her work with a childlike sense of wonder, seeking to evoke this same feeling in her viewers. Crow’s paintings are characterized by vibrant, playful colours and a blend of natural and whimsical subjects, often incorporating surreal elements alongside more traditional representations of nature and animals. Drawing from both photographic references and her own imagination, she creates pieces that are both visually engaging and conceptually playful.
Throughout her diverse painting styles, Crow maintains a consistent thread of levity, colour, and joy, aiming to leave her audience with a smile. She has been working in acrylics for over 15 years, and her dedication to the medium led her to earn an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from the University of Victoria in 2021. Crow's work has been recognized with several prestigious awards and scholarships, including the Takao Tanabe Award for Painting in 2020, an Honourable Mention at the Sooke Fine Arts Show in 2021, and a Jamie Castles Undergraduate Research Award for Visual Arts for the 2020-2021 academic year. She has also received multiple Juror’s Choice Awards at the Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society’s annual shows.
